My responsibility was to create the Paint Splash Simulation on the windows for the Pollock inspired scene. Also created the Color Spread Simulation for the ground, which was used in the Monet inspired step close-up scene.
The project was a collaboration with Disguys / disguys.fr / Disguys Instagram
PAINT SPLASH
Final sequence featuring the effect
// Breakdown
Final composited still frames

Flipbooks of the first drafts, early R&D of the simulation

Flipbooks of centered splashes, R&D

Flipbooks of more defined versions, showing the progress of the effect as it was getting closer to the final result

Flipbook of the final version, multiple simulations were combined to achieve these exact shapes and forms

COLOR SPREAD EFFECT

Final composited still frames

Flipbooks of the first drafts, early R&D and lookdev
Ripple distortion flip simulation approach

Pyro advacted fliptank simulation approach

Eventually an initial pyro simulation created by myself were used as an asset for the final pixels.

Back when I visited MoMA, I wouldn't have thought that I'd have the chance to channel that inspiration into a commercial project. It felt very special to pour that memory into 3D simulations for these two shots, it became a full circle moment.
